Jamieson wrote that the Governor-General had promised to put the matter right but that the real difficulty was that "in the district in question the Governor-General's writ does not run".

It is a serious matter for the Hongkong

Company which in three weeks time must cease its manufacture if

the supply of stone is not continued.
